Anna Nagar is a residential neighbourhood in the metropolitan city of Chennai, India. It is in west Chennai and the areas to the west of Anna Nagar are some of the fastest developing parts of the city.[citation needed]It has always been a smart and affluent suburb, but more recently, inaddition to being a popular residential area, Anna Nagar has alsobecome a busy commercial and educational center.

Anna Nagar was developed by the Tamil Nadu Housing Boardin the early 1970s following the World Trade Fair in the area in 1968.The board developed residential plots, apartments, commercialcomplexes, wide roads, school zones, bus terminus and large parks.

The roads in Anna Nagar are designed based on matrix structure; allthe roads are laid parallel and perpendicular to each other. Inaddition, a standard naming nomenclature is followed. In Anna Nagar,2nd, 4th and 6th Avenues run East-West and 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7thAvenues run North South. All the streets are interconnected to theseavenues.

One of the main attractions in Anna Nagar is the Anna Tower,officially known as the Visveswaraya Tower, built for the 1968 WorldTrade Fair. It is located in the Anna Nagar tower park, a large lungspace in the heart of Anna Nagar. Its main entrance is from the 3rdMain Road. It is popular with morning walkers and joggers, and withfamilies and young people in the evenings to play and relax. For anominal fee one can climb to the top of the tower from where excellentviews of the city can be seen. The tower and park are now beingrenovated and would have one of the better skating rinks in Chennai.Currently, it boasts of a good turnout of children who come in forpractising their skills on roller skates. There is also a group ofregulars who practice silambattam - an ancient Tamil martial artform - here. From atop the tower one can have a panoramic views, andthe rapidly changing skyline of the city can be appreciated.

The large arch in the southern part of Anna Nagar called the AnnaArch was built in the 1980s, when Anna Nagar still had areas ofundeveloped land. The road from the arch leads to the Round Tana (roundabout) which is a major landmark and for all practical purposes, thecentre of Anna Nagar. Other important landmarks include Chinthamani,Blue Star, 14 shops, Thirumangalam junction, Anna Nagar East, and AnnaNagar West bus depot.

Kendriya Vidyalaya, (Hindi: केन्द्रीय विद्यालय) (Hindi for Central School) is a system of central government schools under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (India).

The system came into being in 1965, named "Central Schools", and has been affiliated with CBSEsince then. It serves the children of people in the defence serviceswho are often posted to remote places. With the army starting its own Army Public Schools,the service was extended (but not restricted to) to all centralgovernment employees. The uniform curriculum followed by these schoolsall over India ensures that the children of government employees do notface educational difficulties when their parents are transferred.

The name was later changed from "Central School" to "Kendriya Vidyalaya".

There are 981 schools known as Kendriya Vidyalayas, from which 977are in India and 4 are abroad. A total of 10,33,516 students (as on30.09.2009) and 49,276 employees (including outsoursed) are on rolls(as on 01.11.2009). These have been divided amongst 21 regions eachheaded by an Assistant Commissioner.

A body known as the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (CentralSchool Organization) oversees the functioning of these schools. Thesame operates from its head quarter situated in New Delhi.

The objective is to cater to the educational needs of the childrenof transferable Central Government employees including Defence andPara-Military personnel by providing a common syllabus and system ofeducation.

The SBOA School and Junior College was founded in 1979 by Mr. E.A.G. Moses of the State Bank of India Officers' Association Educational Trust. The school was officially begun on 1979-06-06 at Anna Nagar West, Chennai.It was begun that year to coincide with the International Year of theChild. It was started for the benefit of the Bank's officers' children.The first principal was Ms. Shirley Ray.

In 1983, the school started a new school providing education in the Matriculation board syllabus also: SBOA Matriculation and Higher Secondary School which was later moved to a separate campus in 1994.
