This is a small effort to take you to the heart of Coimbatore - a City surrounded by hills and wrapped rich in culture and tradition. Also known as Kovai. Coimbatore is the second largest city in Tamilnadu. It prides itself as one of the fastest growing cities in India. Situated at the foothils of the Nilgiris, it is known for its pleasant climate, courteous people and cosmopolitan outlook, cotton textiles, hosiery, engineering and electronic goods, world renowned hospitals, IT sectors, auto ancellairy units etc. The city is also known for its handloom products, asbestos products, cement, fertilizer and chemicals. Coimbatore is a hub of jewellery making units and light engineering units.Twenty seven spinning mills were started right from the year 1930 onwards. The first one was started by an European, Sir Robert Stanes in the year 1888. Almost all mill owners of that time were agriculturists. The Industry grew in Coimbatore because the climate was suitable for spinning cotton. That is why, it is called as a "South India's Mancester" There is also a Reasearch Institute called as SITRA (SOUTH INDIAN TEXTILE RESEARCH ASSOCIATION) was formed in the year 1955.

Hidayathulla Islam Safina Jamath, Kottaimedu - is located 1 Km from the Railway Station It is known for its grand architecture. An Arabic College forms part of this mosque. It is recorded that when Tippu Sultan was on his way to Palakkad in Kerala to build a fort there, he and his army stopped at the kottaimedu fort near Coimbatore for rest.The mosque was built in 1896
Located near the Townhall, this temple built by the Irula community in the 13th century. Coimbatore earlier called "kovanpudur" gets its name as mentioned earlier, from the leader of the Irula clan 'Kovan'. During the rule of Mysore dynasty, one of the kings renovated the temple and consecrated the 'Devi Koni Amman' in the style of 'Mahisasuramardhini'.
Kovai Courtalam is an exciting water fall at Siruvani. The water fall is about 37 kms away from Coimbatore. The falls situated in the dense forest and due to this reason the visitors are not permitted to see this after 5 pm
Aazhiyar Dam was constructed in the year 1962 acroos the aaliyar river.It is located is about 65 kms from Coimbatore and it is found at the foot hills of valparai The dam was built as a parambikulam aazhiyar project (PAP) is a huge reservoir.The dam is around 2 km in lenght.The dam is located on the foot hills of Valparai in the Aanamalai range of the Western Ghats.The scenery is absolute beautiful. Mountains surroundings three quarters of the reservoir. There is also a garden and playing area and Boting for visitors.
